Among them is Year 13 student Ky Duyen (Chip), who has received multiple offers to study Law from prestigious universities across the UK and Australia.

With an exceptional academic profile and a clear passion for the legal field, Ky Duyen successfully impressed admissions teams at some of the world’s leading universities, including: 

  • London School of Economics and Political Science – Top 10 globally for Social Sciences and Law (QS Rankings)  
  • University College London – Top 10 globally (QS Rankings)  
  • University of Sydney – Top 20 globally (QS World University Rankings) 
  • King's College London – Top 40 globally (QS Rankings)  
  • University of Edinburgh – Top 30 globally (QS Rankings)  

After careful consideration, Ky Duyen has decided to pursue a Bachelor of Laws at the London School of Economics and Political Science (LSE), one of the world’s leading universities for Social Sciences and Law. With a strong passion for debating, critical thinking, and social issues, this marks a fitting next step in her academic journey. 

In addition, she was also awarded a scholarship worth more than AUD 56,300 (approximately USD 36,500, equivalent to over VND 1 billion) from the University of Sydney (USYD) for its five-year dual degree in Bachelor of Commerce and Bachelor of Laws.

Throughout her time at BVIS HCMC, Duyen has built an impressive academic and extracurricular portfolio, including: 

  • Achieving 4 A grades in AS Level examinations, including a perfect 200/200 UMS in History  
  • Achieving 7 A* grades and 2 A grades in IGCSE examinations  
  • President of the Secondary Student Council (2025–2026)  
  • Member of Events Committee for the Student Council (2024–2025)  
  • President of the BVIS Model United Nations (MUN) Club (2023–2026)  
  • Champion of the Public Speaking Competition (High School) at the Saigon Literary Arts Festival 2024  
  • Co-founder of the non-profit organisation “Seeds of Hope” (2024–2025), aimed at providing children in need with educational opportunities  
  • Conducting four independent research projects with the student-led non-profit organisation The Orchid (2024–2025)  

How BVIS helped Ky Duyen discover and prepare for a future in Law 

Few people know that Duyen initially planned to pursue a pathway in Science. However, through her learning experiences at BVIS and her growing interest in debate, critical thinking, and social issues through the school’s MUN club, she gradually discovered her passion for Law. Her strengths in subjects such as English Literature and History further reinforced her decision to pursue a future career as a solicitor.

To prepare for this pathway, Ky Duyen chose a diverse combination of A Level subjects including Mathematics, Biology, Economics, and History. Reflecting on her academic journey, Duyen shared: “I really enjoyed A Level as I got to explore my subjects of interest in much greater depth. Subjects such as Economics and History prompted me to develop strong critical analysis and the ability to deliver nuanced judgment.” 

Ky Duyen is also recognised for her leadership within the BVIS community as the President of the Student Council for the 2025–2026 academic year. Through her strong leadership and organisational skills, she has led numerous large-scale projects, activities, and events, including TEDx BVISHCMC Youth.

Notably, Duyen also served as a live interpreter for Principal Deirdre Grimshaw during the BVIS HCMC 15th Anniversary Celebration, demonstrating her fluency and confidence in both English and Vietnamese.

Making a positive impact through community initiatives 

In addition to her academic and extracurricular achievements, Ky Duyen has demonstrated a strong sense of social responsibility through “Seeds of Hope”, the non-profit organisation she co-founded.  

Together with her team, she built a student community of more than 50 members and organised meaningful initiatives that provided arts, gifts, and essential supplies to over 200 disadvantaged children.

Reflecting on her journey at BVIS, from debate and public speaking to interpretation and leading major school events, Ky Duyen shared: “BVIS has not only helped me discover my strengths, but has also constantly encouraged me to challenge myself and develop those strengths even further.” 

Ky Duyen’s success reflects not only her outstanding academic ability, but also her initiative, leadership, and commitment to creating a positive impact within the community.
