Pre-Nursery has been enjoying discovering the joy of springtime through creative, hands-on learning experiences filled with curiosity, exploration, and fun.

EXPLORING LIFE CYCLES
The children showed great curiosity while learning about the life cycles of mini beasts.
In Seahorses Class, the children explored the life cycle of a butterfly. They watched in amazement as a butterfly emerged from its cocoon before carefully and kindly releasing it into nature. Inspired by this special experience, the children created their own life cycle books, representing the stages from caterpillar to butterfly through drawings and discussion.

In Seashells Class, the children have been caring for real tadpoles in the classroom. Together, we talked about how tadpoles grow and change into frogs. Each day, the children gently helped care for them, eagerly waiting for their turn to feed the tadpoles and carefully dropping tiny pieces of food into the water.
The children also helped to change the water, practising hand-eye coordination while developing empathy, responsibility, patience, and gentle care for living things. It has been wonderful to see how nurturing and attentive they have become.

BUGS
In springtime, bugs come out to play, so we explored the lives of different mini beasts through a range of exciting activities. During a fun sensory activity about how bees make honey, it was wonderful to hear children confidently using their learning in play: “Bee like flowers!”, “Drinking juice!”, and “I’m making honey!” while landing bees on flowers and mixing flour in jars.

Children were also provided with open-ended resources to create homes for bugs. They explored different ways to connect loose parts, test their ideas, and design homes, developing creativity, problem-solving, and teamwork skills.

CREATIVE BUG MAKING
The children were also invited to create their own bugs using modelling clay. They carefully chose their favourite insects and discussed what they noticed about their appearance — the colours, shapes, legs, wings, and patterns they could see.

Using a variety of techniques, the children practised rolling, pinching, pressing, and shaping the clay to bring their ideas to life. This hands-on experience supported creativity, fine motor development, problem-solving, observation skills, and language development, all through meaningful and enjoyable play.

FLOWERS
The children were engaged in creative art activities inspired by nature. They designed their own gardens by spraying colours onto coffee filters and folding flowers, expressing their creativity while practising hand control and gripping skills. Based on the children’s interest in flowers, we also enjoyed finger plays together, exploring how the sun and rain help flowers grow. The children had great joy joining in with actions, and developing their fine motor skills through songs and movement.
